Truman Burbank is the star of "The Truman Show", a 24-hour-a-day "reality" TV show that broadcasts every aspect of his life -- live and in color -- without his knowledge. His entire life has been an unending soap opera for consumption by the rest of the world. And everyone he knows -- including his wife and his best friend -- is really an actor, paid to be part of his life.

nudity Meryl shows just a bit of cleavage in her nightgown. Truman's bare buttocks are shown (as a toddler on the beach). There's a passionate kiss between two characters. Man is scene in a bathtub few times. Bare chest is visible. A married couple kiss and intend to have sex. The camera cuts away, and two viewers complain about them never showing the sex scenes.
violence Some guards forcibly remove Truman from a building when he accidentally sees part of "the set". Truman then whacks a man on a ladder with his briefcase just to see if it elicits any sort of reaction. Truman holds his "wife" at knifepoint for a few seconds, but doesn't want to harm her.
profanity 2 uses of "Jesus"; 2 uses of "God"; 1 use of "goddamn". At least 2 "sh--" words (with another possible one), 4 "hell", 3 "damn", 2 "ass", 1 S.O.B.
alcohol Truman and his friend occasionally drink beer while contemplating life, and the friend always shows up at Truman's house with a six-pack of beer.
frightening Although it's staged, we see a flashback to when Truman tried to help his father, but then had to watch him drown off their boat during a violent storm. Some suspenseful moments as Truman attempts to challenge the limits of his world: trying to drive over a bridge, driving through a wall of fire, stepping in front of moving traffic, battling a conjured weather storm in a sailboat, etc. A scene near the end might be upsetting to some. MPAA/USA - Rated PG for thematic elements and mild language. BBFC/UK - Rated PG (mild threat).
