Sex sells in America and these guys know it. The Amateurs follows a small town band of loveable losers who hit upon an idea that can make their dreams and fantasies come true. Thinking they've found the road to riches and fame they decide to make the world's most innocent adult film. Everyman's fantasy turns into a hilarious misadventure when they find they're in way over their heads.

Movie Parental Guide

nudity The movie's plot is centred on the making of an amateur porn movie. Some sexual contents are expected. That said, this movie is not nearly as vulgar, obscene, or nudity-filled as one would expect, as it is comedic and not very serious for the most part. The amount and graphicness of the adult scenes is extremely low. There is a surprising lack of moaning and other sensual noises. So, despite the plot, this movie is quite harmless and safe to watch, even if it obviously isn't aimed at children. The women involved in the making of the movie wear suggestive clothes and sensual lingerie, even if not very revealing, but no woman is ever seen naked. Two men strip in close-up. We see the butt of one of them, but it's quite far from the camera. We see another man's butt for a few seconds. A woman rubs the crotch of a men (very briefly and only outside of his trousers). A sex scene between two men and a woman takes place, but it is highly comedic in nature, and we don't see anything at all. There is a lesbian sex scene, but we don't see any graphic detail. Apart from those, there is very little nudity, and overall none of the sex scenes are shown in detail.
violence There is a brief fight scene, in which one man is shot in the arm (no blood seen) and many men are beaten up. The scene is a simple bar fight, rough but not graphic or disturbing in any way.
profanity As the movie focuses on the making of a porn movie, its language is overall pretty lively and colorful, and includes plenty of sexual talking, some rather graphic, some not, even if always in a comedy context. Not much cursing and vulgarity, though: a few uses of fu**, di**, sh**, and other similar terms.
alcohol Many scenes are set in a bar, and most of the characters are seen drinking more than once (mostly beer cans). One woman frequently orders alcoholic drinks. Not much smoking, and no drug use.
frightening Brief bar fight including some shooting. Rated R for: Brief Nudity, Mild Violence, Adult Language, Adult Content.(Showtime advisory)
