Everybody knows that your life is a story. But what if a story was your life? Harold Crick is your average IRS agent: monotonous, boring, and repetitive. But one day this all changes when Harold begins to hear an author inside his head narrating his life. But when the narration reveals he is going to die, Harold must find the author and convince them to change the ending.

Movie Parental Guide

nudity A couple go into a bedroom and it is implied they have sex on various occasions. In one scene, in the background, you see the backsides of a few older men in a public shower. A woman tells a man that he's "looking at her tits".
violence A man pushes a young boy out of the way of a bus: He is hit by the bus and is thrown backwards. We see blood on the windshield and blood pool around his body, as well as grotesque gory cuts on his face. A woman leaps off a building in a daydream; a woman imagines herself falling off a bridge in her car. We see a man with bloody wounds in a hospital and hear that he has been injured in a gang shootout. A woman imagines and voices repeated attempts at being unable to find a way to kill the main character of a novel. A woman describes the body of a woman who has committed suicide.
profanity Some blasphemy, 1 'f' word, and other obscenities. Some sexually-derived crass terms as well ("tits," for example).
alcohol One of the characters smokes constantly throughout the movie; she disposes of the cigarettes by spitting into a wad of tissue, deglamorizing the image of smoking in media (A woman attempts to rid her of her cigarette addiction by offering a Nicotine patch in several scenes).
frightening In an intense sequence in which we know that a character will die, a man is hit by a bus in a highly realistic and graphic manner. Blood sprays onto the windshield and pools around his head as we see various pedestrians calling for help and standing over his body.
