Movie Parental Guide

nudity Shakespeare is known for having some innuendos hidden in his dialogue, but it's highly unlikely that many kids will notice them. We see Romeo and Juliet naked in bed together (Romeo's entire back uncovered, and Juliet under covers), implying they had sex the night before. Romeo gets out of bed and stands in front of a window, and we see the back and side of his body. Romeo, now wearing trousers, briefly returns to bed throwing back the covers on Juliet and making out heavily with her, briefly touching Juliet's breast, which is mostly covered by her long hair. When Juliet leaps up to get dressed we see a sub-second flash of her breasts right before the camera. This scene is about two minutes long.
violence Some fistfights, scuffling, and dueling Swords are never shown graphically entering skin, but we do see stabbings violently implied with people crying out and covered with blood, including on their faces. There is a sword duel fight against Mercutio and Tybalt and Tybalt stabs Mercutio and kills him. There is also another sword duel fight against Romeo and Tybalt and Romeo kills Tybalt and ends up getting banished by the Prince. Romeo and Juliet both kill themselves by drinking poison and Juliet stabbing herself with the dagger and they both end up dead.
profanity There are mild swear words used in the movie including "Damned", "Hell", and "Bloody" as it is part of the Shakespeare play.
alcohol There are men that can be seen drinking wine.
frightening The scenes with peoples getting killed and blood all over their face can be very disturbing. There are women that can be heard screaming as the fight between the Capulets and Montague may scare kids and sensitive people. The scene with Romeo and Juliet killing themselves by drinking poison and stabbing herself with the dagger can be disturbing. Suggested MPAA Rating: Rated PG-13 for mild language, blood, violence, depiction of suicide, brief nudity, mild sexual content.
