Movie Parental Guide

nudity No bare breasts or genitals. Male buttocks briefly seen when male character flips over in bed to talk to Miss Pettigrew. The heroine is shown covered with bubbles and flirtatious in a bubble bath and then covering herself with a towel. She goes to her bed in with the towel only covering her front, so she flashes her buttocks from the side. One man is seen naked by Miss Pettigrew (but not by us) and makes a veiled joke about having an erection. ("getting up" vis-a-vis "waking up") The setting is sex farce: a young woman who is sleeping with three different men: two of them for financial advantage and one for love. She has to juggle them. The sex is frequently discussed, although not graphically; no sex shown. The heroine fights off sexual advances, including a fairly long scene where she is wearing nothing but a bathrobe and the man is naked under the sheets. The kissing scenes are sexy. No fondling of breasts or grinding, but one lover grabs her bottom briefly while they embrace. The heroine frequently wiggles to display her figure provocatively. Women using sex to get parts in a play or to be kept by a man they don't love is presented as acceptable, although not desirable. Amy Adams as Delysia plays her part very sweetly. She does have some pangs of guilt concerning what she is doing by stringing the guys along, but needs help sorting everything out.
violence Almost no violence. There is one cartoonish fight, where a good guy and bad guy take turns punching each other in the jaw and falling down.
profanity McDorman, who is a vicar's daughter, is shocked when she says "damn" and "hell" for the first time. Several other instances of light profanity.
alcohol A lot of alcohol drinking, some of it comical, very similar to movies from the 1930's and 40's. Some cigarette and cigar smoking.
frightening None.
