Newly elected President Nelson Mandela knows his nation remains racially and economically divided in the wake of apartheid. Believing he can bring his people together through the universal language of sport, Mandela rallies South Africa's rugby team as they make their historic run to the 1995 Rugby World Cup Championship match.

Movie Parental Guide

nudity Several men are seen in a locker room shirtless and in their underwear. The team leader's girlfriend playfully tries to initiate sex before a World Cup match, but he tells her that abstaining keeps him strong (and angry). They embrace, kiss and fall backwards together out of the shot. Nothing is shown. A woman at a dance wears a revealing, low-cut dress. As Mandela casually dances with her, he tells her that he almost wishes he was a polygamist, like his father, because she is so beautiful.
violence The Rugby games are basically like football but without pads so they can get pretty hard-hitting. Players do obtain cuts and bruises during matches. There are a couple of minor fight scenes during some of the rugby games.
profanity Three "F" words, two of which are only noticeable if you put it on subtitles, the other one is well heard. and very few minor profanities. You can only hear two but if you put on the subtitles, there are more that can't be heard. At least five instances of the "S" word, though they are somewhat obscured by the characters' accents. At least one instance of "bastard." The South African word 'voetsek', which is Afrikaans and is a rude form of 'go away!', is used on a few occasions. (Note: it does not mean "F*** off" as a previous poster wrote. It is not as strong or as rude as that, but it is not polite!)
alcohol There is a scene in a bar where the team is celebrating a win while drinking. During the final match, people are shown watching the game in bars and pubs. A lot of them are seen with alcohol in their hands.
frightening A terrorist threat involving a plane occurs during the big game. In an early scene, a minibus appears to be following the President.
