Based on Mary Shelley's novel, "Frankenstein" tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, a promising young doctor who, devastated by the death of his mother during childbirth, becomes obsessed with bringing the dead back to life. His experiments lead to the creation of a monster, which Frankenstein has put together with the remains of corpses. It's not long before Frankenstein regrets his actions.

nudity In deep shadows, a man is shown shirtless. There are a couple of passionate kisses and a wedding night scene in which the couple loosen each others' clothing and it's implied that they make love after the scene cuts. Dr. Frankenstein marries a woman who was adopted by his family and raised as his sister. When the Monster first lives, strong male rear nudity is shown as well as graphic full frontal nudity with some penis close-ups. No female nudity is shown.
violence 7/10 There is a part where autopsy on a human is shown mostly off-screen. Nothing graphic. The monster attacks and kills a person, pulling out the victim's heart with bare fists. The very bloody corpse is shown. Someone commits suicide by holding a lamp overhead and breaking it, becoming engulfed in flames (not gory but extremely unnerving). The monster has a lot of stitches and scars on its body. A person is killed off-screen. We hear flesh tearing (nothing is shown). A kid came across the Monster and later runs away but killed off screen.
profanity A few mild profanities and insults.
alcohol None
frightening 'Frankenstein' is not a very violent film but some sequences, such as the re-animated Elizabeth or the scene where a character's heart is ripped might seem quite violent and disturbing. The film is a very sad tale of men unable to accept the Creature because of his appearance If it was released today and the rating changed it would probably be R for brief sexual content, some nudity, horror violence and gore
