Set in futuristic Metro City, Astro Boy is about a young robot with incredible powers created by a brilliant scientist in the image of the son he has lost. Movie Parental Guide

nudity A teen girl and a robot boy hug in a friendly manner. A teen girl and a robot boy lie on the hood of a car and talk. We see an illustration of a person bending over a medical table and being injected with a hypodermic needle in the buttock (no physical details are shown). A woman wears a tight-fitting dress that accentuates her sizable bosom. Source: www.kids-in-mind.com There is no sex, no kissing, and no real nudity. A nicely figured girl is briefly shown sunbathing in a bikini. Our hero repeatedly gets his chest bared to reveal his power source, and several times he is shown wearing nothing but his tight-fitting shorts and boots.
violence Several scenes include graphic destruction of buildings and robots, but none with blood or bodily harm. Then again, many of the robots are damaged, dismembered, or even destroyed, and it's difficult to believe that these machines are not living beings.
profanity A girl was about to say: "Oh my God" but it gets interrupted by Astro Boy when he flies. There is one brief use of the word "Freaking" near the end of the movie.
alcohol One man is shown smoking a cigar at one time or another. Other than that, no smoking, drinking, or drugs. Our hero gets offered a drink, but it turns out to be oil.
frightening Some of the scenes contain battles between humans and robots against other robots, and result in flying metal, crashing buildings, and scattered debris. It's clear that some of the robots are intent on doing bodily harm and even killing humans, and several people are shown being 'absorbed' by an evil robot, resulting in their deaths. One of these deaths is that of a pre-teen boy, causing his father to become very sad. He misses his son so much that he creates an android replica of his deceased son, but later disowns him. The resulting feeling of rejection by the android's supposedly own father is quite obvious, and we are made to sympathize with him. These feelings can be disturbingly sad to a young viewer.
