THE BOXTROLLS are a community of quirky, mischievous creatures who have lovingly raised an orphaned human boy named Eggs in the amazing cavernous home theyve built beneath the streets of a city called Cheesebridge. The story is about a young orphaned boy raised by underground cave-dwelling trash collectors who tries to save his friends from an evil exterminator, the towns villain, Archibald Snatcher. When Snatcher comes up with a plot to get rid of the Boxtrolls. Eggs decides to venture above ground and into the light, where he meets and teams up with fabulously feisty Winnie. Together, they devise a daring plan to save The BoxTrolls family. The film is based upon the childrens novel Here Be Monsters by Alan Snow.

Movie Parental Guide

nudity A married man is attracted to another woman (Later in the film we find out the woman he was attracted to is actually a man in disguise.) and in one scene he is discussing her with some other men and comparing her to a quality cheese while at the same time he is caressing the cheese. This scene is however in no way sexual. Madame Frou Frou is always seen wearing a dress revealing some cleavage. You can see the Trolls naked (bottoms) from behind in one scene. A young girl sees a young boy scratching his crotch (he is facing the other way) and tells him, "Don't do that in public, that's why they're called privates!"
violence There are several lines in the movie referring to "rivers of blood" and the consumption of "Baby's bones". There is action where the villain and his minions aggressively hunt and capture the boxtrolls. The villain has a severe cheese allergy that makes him puff up grotesquely whenever he consumes cheese. A man is clobbered over the head with a large wrench, killing him. The deed is done in shadow, but the lead up may be intense for younger viewers Actually, the movie is too violent and uncomfortable and not aimed at an audience younger than 11. However, it may be okay for mature 8 year olds.
profanity "Oh My God" is said once.
frightening The antagonist is drawn rather creepy which could be frightening to younger viewers. The Boxtrolls, however are quite cute and adorable.
