A sheltered Amish child is the sole witness of a brutal murder in a restroom at a Philadelphia train station, and he must be protected. The assignment falls to a taciturn detective who goes undercover in a Pennsylvania Dutch community. On the farm, he slowly assimilates despite his urban grit and forges a romantic bond with the child's beautiful mother.

Movie Parental Guide

nudity A woman takes a sponge bath where she stands up and faces a man at the door; her bare breasts are visible. A man and a woman kiss.
violence A man's throat is visibly sliced and blood spurts out of the wound. A man is shot and as he slides down a wall blood is seen spilling down the wall. A fistfight takes place and a man's nose is broken causing lots of blood to spill out. A man is suffocated by falling corn kernals (looks like he dies allergically, this scene goes on for quite some time). A man is slightly bloody after being shot and we later see the wound (not graphic).
profanity - 8 uses of the F-word - 3 uses of Shit - 3 uses of Asshole - 2 uses of Hell - 1 use of Damn - 1 use of Goddamn
alcohol Mild and infrequent.
frightening This film has a few violent scenes, however tension is more dominant than violence. Viewers might want to know that: A child witnesses a murder and has to be protected. People make fun of the Amish rubbing ice cream on a guy's face and smacking their horse. A guy dies from falling corn (apparently he has an allergic reaction). Witness is not for very young audiences; it is alright for viewers above 14 years old (some violence, some sensuality, language). Suggested MPAA Rating: R for some violence, language, and brief nudity.
