Movie Parental Guide

nudity Suggested MPAA rating: PG-13 for heavy drug use, sexuality/partial nudity, violence, and bizarre images and hallucinations 6/10 Some Mild Sexual Content. Nude pictures of women are shown in one scene. However they are in the background and not in focus. A couple is shown together in bed, it is implied that they were about to have sex. The sides of a woman's breasts are shown in one scene. A couple is nude while swimming, nothing shown. In a very short scene it is implied that a homosexual man has sexually assaulted another man, though nothing is shown. This scene is very comedic.
violence 6/10 Some cartoonish violence and some realistic violence. Although always fairly mild, blood is shown in several scenes. Tommy is bullied by his older cousin in one scene, although it is comical, and played for laughs. Any violence in the scene is fairly slapstick, comedic, and very mild with no blood. In one scene a man is struck in the head by a lamp and killed. No blood is shown. There is a short scene of a man flying a plane in the war. The plane is on fire, and we some blood dripping down the pilot's face. A young girl hits her head against a chair off screen, but immediately afterwards we see her unconscious with blood dripping from the wound. Moments later, we see her awake and there is a scar down the side of her face.
profanity 0/10 None. The film only features music, with no spoken dialogue. The music contains no explicit lyrics.
alcohol 9/10 There is smoking, drinking, and strong drug-use in the film. Use of LSD and Marijuana in separate sequences. There is a long scene in which Tommy is injected with dozens of needles of LSD by "The Acid Queen", a drug obsessed prostitute. This is the most adult scene in the film.
frightening 5/10 Characters such as Uncle Ernie, The Acid Queen, or Cousin Kevin can scare children. Some scenes in the film are about war, which may upset some people. Some of the hallucinations are really quirky and strange, these scenes may frighten some younger viewers. Overall Estimation: 26/50 Even though this movie is rated PG, you have to remember that back in 1975 (when Tommy was released) they only had the ratings: G, PG, and R, this film wasn't enough to make the R rating so it remained PG however if it was released today it would most likely be PG-13 I would suggest that parents watch this film before showing it to their children.
