violence Even despite being a 1940's family oriented cartoon there is still more violence (none graphic, no blood) than one would think. Casper finally makes a friend with an adorable fox cub, but once the hunter comes gunshots are fired towards his cute, sweet little animal friend, and the hunters dogs growl rowdily at the fox while trying to hunt him down.

frightening This is a cartoon that children should not see unless parents are trying to teach their kids a lesson about life and death. Casper wants to set a different example from fellow ghosts by being friendly to animals rather than scaring them. When he fails multiple times at trying to befriend different animals, Casper weeps and mourns, until he becomes friends with Ferdie, the cute little fox who loves him and isn't afraid of him, and the mourning could upset many sensitive children who struggle with loneliness and attempting to fit in. In addition it should be noted that Ferdie is an adorable, cute character that children (and even adults) are sure to fall in love with. However the bulk of this cartoon deals with a fox hunter and his two hounds chasing, and firing gunshots in an attempt to kill Ferdie. The cartoon is only seven minutes long so this isn't much of a spoiler. Ferdie is shot and killed (not on-screen,) by the hunter and towards the end of the cartoon you see Casper holding Ferdie's completely lifeless body and weeping in heart-wrenching pain saying "He was the only friend I ever had in my whole life." The next scene shows Casper burying his friend next to him at the cemetery. Though there proves to be an ultimate happy and satisfying ending (which I won't give away) for Casper and Ferdie, even children who are mainly insensitive and unaffected by sad events in movies may find this cartoon short to be highly disturbing, and downright depressing due to the tragic fate of Casper's friend Ferdie. Not only is Ferdie's death highly disturbing, but Casper's weeping as he carries his dead friend's body to the cemetery is highly upsetting and very painful to watch.
