Ten-year-old Sophie is in for the enterprise of a lifetime when she meets the Big Friendly Giant. Normally frightened at in the first place, the young lady soon understands that the 24-foot behemoth is very tender and beguiling. As their companionship develops, Sophie's nearness pulls in the undesirable consideration of Bloodbottler, Fleshlumpeater and different monsters. In the wake of heading out to London, Sophie and the BFG must persuade Queen Victoria to help them dispose of all the awful goliaths for the last time.

violence Some family-friendly slapstick and gross-out humor. There are some mild scenes of violence depicted, such as towards the end of the film, where the giants are captured in nets and hoisted away by helicopters.
frightening There are some frightening sequences in the film, though not prolonged and/or intense. The film contains some scenes that convey a mild sense of threat. These include a scene where a giant's hand is seen reaching in through the window to grab the protagonist as she is lying in bed; a scene where the protagonist is seen inside a saucepan as the giant talks about eating her while preparing food, and a scene where the protagonist is grabbed by a giant who drops her into his mouth, etc. The scenes may be unsettling for some younger children and would be more appropriate with parental guidance.
