She asks him if he wants to ball - he declines the offer. Stoner walks through his clothing factory. Some of the models are in various stages of undress. No nudity is shown but several are wearing just bras above the waist. A man comes to a factory. It is said that he wants to get laid, as a bribe, which is set up for him. Stoner says that he is always horny. The prostitute that they hire discusses the man's sexual proclivities over the phone. We later see her place a vibrator on the dresser and unzip her pants as the scene cuts away. We later see her and a colleague in their underwear. Two men discuss jerking each other off, but they are not referring to a sexual act. A man is reminded of a girl he used to have a crush on, but everyone in the band was banging her except him. A man greets another with "Hello, how are they hanging?" Two men discuss what goes on in an adult movie. It's the same as Quo Vadis but they take their togas off. They then go to see such a movie - Denmark Speaks, which includes a famous smorgasbod scene, we are told. A man asks his wife over the telephone whether she would like to do it with him right now. He then proceeds to discuss memorable times from their past love-making. A young woman is asked what three things she would wish for. She chooses peace, harmony and "to make it with Mick Jagger". A woman massages a man's naked back. She tries to make out with him but he says he can't. However the next morning it appears that they did make love. The young woman refuses money from him.
violence Two men discuss setting fire to a factory for the insurance money. Two men discuss casualties from the Vietnam War. A man making a speech imagines he sees war casualties in the audience. A man talks about a colleague being held out of a 13-storey window by his ankles, while his assailant says "Next time I let go". A man has nightmares, some while still awake, about world war 2.
profanity One use of "fuck" or a derivative. Use of offensive racial term - wetback. Use of blasphemy - "Jesus Christ", "my God", "hell", "goddamn". Occasional use of mild profanity - "piss", "bastard", "ass", "shit", "crap", "bitch".
alcohol A tailor smokes cigarettes while he works. His fingers are stained with tar and he tells his boss he has been smoking for 50 years. Other adult characters also smoke cigarettes and cigars. A character says that teenagers are injecting horse in the school bathrooms. Two men drink scotch at a business meeting. A man drinks scotch and smokes cigars with his lunch. Two men meet in a bar where people are drinking alcohol and smoking. A man drinks scotch at his desk after hours. A woman doesn't know how her flight went because she took some pills first. When a young woman discovers that an older man's father owned a drugstore she wants to know whether he turned on. He explained that they knew nothing about uppers or downers when he was younger, just enemas. She tells him she is carrying some great grass. They share a joint or two. A woman explains her previous behaviour by stating that she was stoned.
frightening When Stoner sinks into one of his fugues, or daydreams, and remembers the war, and begins to rant, the scenes are quite intense.
