The movie mostly focuses on a man with an advanced form of autism, known as Savant Syndrome.
Charlie kidnaps his brother Raymond. Charlie is often abusive (physically and verbally) towards Raymond and takes advantage of Raymond for his own benefit. Some of the scenes can be disturbing and upsetting to many.
There are scenes where Ray begins to hit himself and scream horribly in terror. When he is forced to board a plane and when he burns food.
