In this true story told through flashbacks, Christy Brown is born with crippling cerebral palsy into a poor, working-class Irish family. Able only to control movement in his left foot and to speak in guttural sounds, he is mistakenly believed to be retarded for the first ten years of his life.

alcohol 3/10 Occasionally, there are scenes in a pub where you can see men drinking and smoking. The crippled man is seen drinking spirit. In another scene, he is seen drinking wine. In one scene, a whole group of people are drinking wine. The crippled man drinks two glasses of spirit straight. During his third glass, a woman stops him an he bangs his head on the table continuously for more drinks. A man is seen smoking.
frightening 5/10 A crippled boy is seen sliding down the stairs to help his mom who has fallen. The music with the actions my upset younger viewers. Younger viewers may be scared with so much screaming in one scene. Overall: 23/50 Suggested MPAA Rating: R for some violence including disturbing images, language and a brief image of graphic nudity.
