A group of boys are marooned on an island after their plane crashes. With no adult survivors, they create their own "micro-society". Ralph is elected "chief", and he organises shelter and fire. Jack, the head of the choir takes his boys hunting for food (wild pigs). A bitter rivalry develops between Jack and Ralph as both want to be in charge. The "hunters" become savage and primal, under Jack's rule, while Ralph tries to keep his group civilised. The growing hostility between them leads to a bloody and frightening climax.

Movie Parental Guide

nudity There is a moderate amount of nudity in this film. The boys are shown skinny dipping, and running about the island in loin cloths or without trousers at times. It's not too bad, but it's not advised for small children if their parents do not want children to see other children naked in a non-sexual and non-sensational context.
violence Group of boys kill another helpless boy though it is vaguely shown in flashes of images. Rock crushes a boy though the camera cuts just as it's about to hit him. Characters briefly describe the process of killing an animal. Several pigs are killed and torn apart by hungry boys, and the boys joke by spattering blood on one another. The head of a sow is severed and placed on a pike. The actual severing isn't shown, but the image of the sow's head is seen several times.
profanity Very limited. A handful of mild obscenities.
alcohol None.
frightening The whole film can be frightening for children. There is a significant amount of violence and savagery. The dance scene is particularly intense and potentially scary for children.
