Disgrace is the story of a South African professor of English who loses everything: his reputation, his job, his peace of mind, his good looks, his dreams of artistic success, and finally even his ability to protect his cherished daughter. After having an affair with a student, he moves to the Eastern Cape, where he gets caught up in a mess of post-apartheid politics.

violence Violence in the film is infrequent. The violence that is depicted, is however very brutal. A man pushes another man to the ground. A man lets a dog loose on another man. He is shown in agony as he tries to get the dog off of him. A man hits his head against a door. He passes out. When he regains his conscience, he is locked inside a bathroom. Three men open the bathroom door and brutally drag him out. They pour a flammible liquid on him, throw him back in the bathroom, and set him alight with a match. The man is shown writhing around in agony, and finally uses water from the toilet to douse the flames. The scene is very disturbing. His wounds are shown graphically. Later, a detailed shot is shown of how the man's wounds are tended to. His wounds are shown graphically throughout the film. The three men are shown shooting a pack of dogs in a cage. Later, one of the wounded dogs are shown. Blood is shown escaping from the dog's wound. A man pulls another man down from where he is peeping into a window. He throws him to the ground and repeatedly kicks him. Graphic image of a goat's testicle is shown which is infected with worms. Disturbing scene where a woman euthanises a dog.
