Movie Parental Guide

nudity Three little boys leap into a man and a woman's arms (we see their nude posteriors). The housekeeper is a busty woman with a low cut dress and the viewer's attention is purpousefuly brought to her cleavage, especially in the scene where she drops a key into her dress and it is implied that a boy jumps into the dress to grab the key. Men have escaped from a tower by tying their kilts together to make a rope to climb down. We see them walk past. We only see their posterior. A male character is seen showing his behind from under his kilt to the male characters behind him (we see nothing) and they seem to be disgusted by the smell. He also swings his hips in a slightly vulgar manner. It is implied that the transformation into a bear happened only to the body not the clothes. The queen's dress is found torn on the floor and she is embarrased to walk around without clothes even as a bear. When she's turned back to her human form she is seen covered by a tapestry. She asks her husband to help her because she's completely naked and there is a crowd of people around her. In spite of the suggestive keywords, there is NO female nudity depicted in this film. There are scenes where nudity is implied and that implication is embarrassing to the characters.
violence A group of men get into a brawl. There is a fight with a huge bear in which people are thrown around and often hit rocks. A massive bear emerges from behind a rock formation, the bear growls and swipes at several men. One bear defeats another, revealing a human spirit. Objects are thrown several times at a crow- they miss. There is an axe and several arrows thrown at a stuffed bear and discussion about how this will happen to a real bear. A massive bear rears up behind a woman and a young girl while men with weapons race toward it. A man pulls out a sword and tries to swipe at a bear, the man's daughter jumps in front of the bear and the bear rears up and accidentally swipes the girl (we see a small cut on the girl's arm); the bear then runs from the room and is chased by several men through the forest. Several men shoot arrows at one another until a girl walks through the fighting and they stop and stare at her (no one appears to be injured). A woman, in the form of a bear, rears up and growls at her human daughter; the girl is scared and seconds later the bear calms down and realizes she's human. A girl ducks multiple times, narrowly avoiding hitting multiple trees as she rides a horse until the horse bucks and she lands on the ground with a thud (she stands up, unharmed). A man holds a woman at sword point and shoves her out of the way as he and several others scour a castle for a bear. An older woman magically forces several knives to surround a girl; the woman instructs the knives to turn around to her, then return to aim at the girl and moments later they drop to the ground (no one is harmed). A man kicks open a door and shoves another man out of his way. A girl dramatically jokes that she "expects a declaration of war in the morning." Three men share dramatic stories about their sons being able to fight wars and standing up to "10,000 Romans." A woman in bear form and a girl hunt for fish; the bear grabs and eats fish directly from a stream and we see the girl spear a fish for food. This isn't graphic.
profanity 1/10 Actually none. Just some minor name calling and rude humor from the little boys.
alcohol 1/10 Several men drink what appears to be beer, but we don't get to see it.
frightening Elinor and Merida have a couple of arguments. There are scenes containing fights with a huge bear. The appearance of this bear (scars and arrows in the body) might be frigtening on its own. The scene of fight between two bears is very intense.
