Bonnie and Clyde is based on the true stories of the gangster pair Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow who in the 1930s began robbing banks in U.S. cities until they were eventually killed. The film is a major landmark in the aesthetic movement known as the New Hollywood.

nudity Bonnie is nude at the beginning of the film, but explicit areas are covered. Bonnie & Clyde are shown in a bed together, kissing passionately. Bonnie moves down and opens Clyde's trousers, about to perform oral sex, but she stops. Both are clothed during this scene.
violence 8/10 - Violence is apparent, but is usually quickly seen. A man attacks Clyde with a cleaver. Clyde eventually defends himself by hitting the man in the head with a heavy object. Some blood is shown on his wounds. Clyde shoots a man through a car window. Blood is shown on the glass. Several characters are shot in various shootouts throughout the film, usually without blood shown. During a shootout near the end of the film, Bonnie and Clyde are both shot in non-vital areas, showing much blood from their wounds. Buck is shot in the head. A bandage is put on the wound, but blood is shown seeping through. Bonnie and Clyde are gunned to death in a hail of machine-gun fire at the end of the film. Various shots in this scene are in slow motion. The violence in the film was very shocking for its time, and is still quite abrupt and shocking today, if not particularly graphic.
profanity Cursing is very infrequent and mostly in the context of Southern slang. The strongest swear is son of a b-tch, used a few times in frustration/displeasure.
alcohol Alcohol is occasionally consumed. A few characters are seen smoking.
frightening The final scene is probably the most violent. The rest of the film is not particularly frightening or disturbing in the usual sense. If it were to be rated today, most like Rated R for violence and some language.
