Based on the 1930 classic by Faulkner, it is the story of the death of Addie Bundren and her family's quest to honor her wish to be buried in the nearby town of Jefferson.

We hear a young woman's voice over saying that she had sex with a young man and that her brother had his suspicions; the voice over implies that she is pregnant and needs to go into town to have an abortion. A young woman implies to a pharmacist that she would like to buy medication to cause her to abort; the man scolds her and tells her that no amount of money would purchase medication to self-abort.
