nudity A shirtless boy initiates a striptease from his girlfriend who after rubbing her legs down to her thighs begins to bring her hand from her underwear to her shirt which she begins to unbutton,The side outlines of a girl's breasts are visible briefly in a striptease. An unconscious girl on the upper half of her thigh has black marker indicating fun here with an arrow directed towards her pelvic region. A girl is stated through a hacked mock message on Skype IM to have had sex with the entire football team. Generated memes linked as jpeg images display a girl in her bra and underwear following sex with a boy who is shirtless and holding her in embrace with suggestive gesturing. A video is uploaded to youtube entitled NFSW: Blaire & Adam which shows a boy strip down a girl to her bra and underwear before laying down upon a bed as he strips down into his underwear, the boy brings out a condom, he then picks to kiss up the leg of the girl before the video ends. A girl recounts to her boyfriend her brief affair with his bestfriend, briefly detailing how the experience itself in a reassuring comment lasted only a couple of seconds. A porn advertisement briefly appears detailing free live cams with three girls beginning to address to become topless, the advertisement's loop ends before any nudity, the third girl being the film's main protagonist who never reached during an earlier striptease actual nudity. Sex is referenced. A young man threatens a woman that if she does not remove her shirt, he will cut it off. He holds a knife towards the camera. She begins unbuttoning her shirt and exposes her abdomen, and small parts of her breasts are shown, her nipples are covered with her shirt. No real nudity is shown.
violence Scenes of physical and psychological torment/humiliation, disturbing images, infrequent gory images, scenes of suicide. The entire movie takes place on a Skype call on teenagers' computers. This creates a very eerie and realistic feeling. The narrative occurs in the aftermath of a young woman's suicide, following her victimization by 'cyber bullies' who spread a video depicting her unconscious at a party where she urinated and defecated in her clothes. The trauma caused by her bullying led to her apparent suicide, and forms the method with which the protagonists are then tormented, resulting in instances of seemingly forced suicide. There are occasional brief scenes of strong violence, including a suicide by shooting, a stabbing, a scene in which a woman has a burning object protruding from her mouth, and a sequence in which a man's hand is mutilated in a food blender. The film begins with the Live Leak video depicting the suicide of a teenage girl who at the high school on it's basketball courts fires upon herself at gross point blank range with a pistol, a brief blurred spray of blood is visible. Levels of threat increase throughout as the protagonists are tormented psychologically and ultimately physically Laura shoots herself in the head before a crowd, brief flash of blood as gun goes off and she collapses to the ground dead. Valerie sits motionlessly next to an open bottle of bleach and a shattered mirror is seen behind her, which was presumably destroyed during her seizure, as stated by one of the characters who said that the teen girl previously had many seizures. Suddenly, her body and her laptop is thrown onto the floor and it is revealed that she had drank the bleach as her dead body is shown for a few seconds. Ken is attacked by an unseen force, moments before killing himself by placing his hand in a blender and then takes of the glass of the blender then using the blades of the blender to shred his throat via throwing his neck down upon it. Very brief but very gory. Adam, under Laura's possession, shoots himself in the head and dies. It is only seen briefly, brief spray of blood and blood visible on concealed print out on floor. Jess dies with a running curling iron in her throat. We see it from the top down briefly and later for a prolonged time in a still on a computer screen. Though it is not gory, there is simmering blood pouring from her mouth and down her neck, it is very sadistic as a photo of her death is posted on Facebook for everyone to see. Mitch dies by pinning a knife on his table (also under Laura's thrall) then headbutts the blade which impales his eye and then he dies.Gory,Lasts About 4 seconds. Blaire hides in her bedroom and she is suddenly killed by a ghost who emerges out of nowhere. Though not seen, many people have been spreading rumors that she was killed with a chainsaw, nothing is shown,no blood..
profanity Frequent strong language, once very strong. Over 50 uses of "f--k", integrated into the fast moving chat scenes. One use of "c--t" shown very briefly on a youtube video. Others of "bitch", "ass", "dick", "slut" very sparingly.name calling "floozy, hoe, whore, slut, dumb bitch, etc. Several characters hurl emotionally abusive language at a teen girl and one of them even tells her to kill herself.
alcohol Images of hard drug/alcohol use. There are brief use of drugs, references to the use of drugs, brief displays of alcoholic consumption and the brief use of an electric cigarette all involving teenagers. Many people are seen drinking in a party video. Two girls become drunk and one shoves the other. A guy displays a blender containing a mix of food and alcohol which he begins to pour for consumption. Two guys discuss marijuana purchased from another guy for an upcoming event. A guy smokes marijuana from a small cannabis pipe. A guy smokes an electric cigarette and exhales smoke upon the camera. A guy reveals to the group another guys' administering of rophynol to a girl whom he then had sex with whilst under the affects of the drug and whom got pregnant. A guy throughout the film pours himself glasses of wine which eventually lead him to an angry, intoxicated state. Rohypnol is later having been revealed being administered to the beginning victim of suicide at the youtube playbacked party entitled Laura Barns Kill urself, which had led her to be rendered unconscious which led her to defecate and menstruate in her clothes. A girl is seen doing a bong in a past video that is shown. A young man smokes marijuana and electronic cigarettes throughout the film while Skype chatting. One character is drinking what may be alcohol throughout the chat sequences and it is said that he's drunk.
frightening Very strong threat and menace, strong psychological horror. The entire film follows the mature themes of cyberbullying, suicide, and betrayal. The fact that it takes place entirely on a computer screen makes the film more realistic and gritty. A teen girl is briefly seen being possessed by an unseen force moments before she dies by having a curling iron activated in her mouth. Her scream is very disturbing and the glitch makes it even more frightening. A teen boy shows a teen girl a website about receiving messages from the dead. Some of the content on the website is quite disturbing and might give viewers nightmares as it looks very realistic. There is a jump scare at the end of the movie where a demon-like ghost of a teen girl who committed suicide one year earlier emerges out of nowhere to kill the main protagonist. MPAA/USA - Rated R for violent content, pervasive language, some sexuality, and drug and alcohol use - all involving teens. BBFC/UK - Rated 15 (very strong language, strong violence, threat, sex, suicide theme).
