Movie Parental Guide

nudity 5/10 Shrek asks a servant to scratch his butt at the beginning of the movie then a curtain folds up and an audience behinds a stage sees them. Shrek can't believe that Princess Fiona is pregnant, and rhetorically asks how that could happen. Puss in Boots then matter-of-factly starts to explain about getting a certain feeling for a woman and "a powerful urge," but Shrek says he knows that part. Despite having fathered a bunch of donkey-dragon hybrid kids, Donkey naively then wants Puss in Boots to continue, but then it cuts to Shrek standing at the railing of the boat. Some princesses are depicted burning a brassiere for about a second. In a dream sequence, Shrek is on a stage with thousands of little ogre babies laughing at Shrek because he is naked. You see his bare butt and his stomach and him cover/hold his genital area. A restaurant is called "Hooters" in one scene.
violence 4/10 Part of Shrek's stuffy and stiff royal costume pops off and hits Donkey. That sets off a comedy-based chain reaction of chaos where various things or characters accidentally smash into other things or characters, including a small fire breaking out. An ogre baby vomits in Shrek's face. Overall fighting and slapstick throughout the film.
profanity 2/10 Puss starts to say to Donkey, "You, my friend, are royally screwed," though "screwed" was replaced by a horn sound in the TV version.
alcohol 3/10 A character stumbles out of a smoke-filled carriage, commenting on the frankincense and myrrh (but it's obviously a visual spoof of a van filled with pot smoke). After Merlin transports Shrek, Puss, and Donkey, Donkey says he "Hasn't had a trip like that since college" referencing LSD. This film contained no obvious scenes of tobacco use.
frightening 2/10 The Dream Scene Shrek has might be creepy to younger children even though its played for comedy ! Overall Rating: 16/50 - Parental guidance suggested for kids under 9 Final Note: A family film overall, but families with older kids and some teenagers might appreciate it more.
