Hercules, son of the Greek God, Zeus, is turned into a half-god, half-mortal by evil Hades, God of the Underworld, who plans to overthrow Zeus. Hercules is raised on Earth and retains his god-like strength, but when he discovers his immortal heritage Zeus tells him that to return to Mount Olympus he must become a true hero. Hercules becomes a famous hero with the help of his friend Pegasus and his personal trainer, Phil the satyr. Hercules battles monsters, Hades and the Titans, but it is his self-sacrifice to rescue his love Meg which makes him a true hero.

Movie Parental Guide

nudity 1/10 Some very mild kissing scenes. Lengthy sequence of a Greek Goddess seducing a Greek God (both depicted in human form). At the end the male form touches the female's shoulder strap, with an implied intent of removing it.
violence 3/10 During the battle with the Hydra, Hercules cuts off four of its heads; each time a spray of green slime is seen (at one point, we see a lingering shot of the severed neck). The beast is eventually crushed under a rock slide. The three Fates share one eyeball, and pop it out frequently to give it to each other. The Titans wreak havoc with fire, ice, tornadoes, and huge rocks. Lots of action and comical/slapstick injury throughout the film. Meg is crushed by a pillar, resulting in her death; Hercules rescues her from the underworld.
profanity 0/10 Nothing noteworthy.
alcohol 1/10 Several of the gods are briefly seen drinking at the beginning of the movie and celebrate with what appears to be wine at the end. Hades smokes a cigar (but can't be affected by it because he's immortal).
frightening 3/10 Hades' underworld may be somewhat scary looking for younger kids. Menacing creatures and skeletons are shown, as well as the River Styx, which is full of ghosts. Overall Rating: 10/50 BBFC - (U): mild violence.
